Getting to know Erik Johnson Idaho News 6

Erik Johnson joined Idaho News 6 in March 2023 after spending 2 years working as a meteorologist and reporter at KRTV in Great Falls, Montana. Erik has also worked as a meteorologist in Utica, New York and as a middle school teacher at a STEM school near Hartford, Connecticut.

He graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego with a bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Sciences and a minor in communication and social interaction. During his time in college, Erik had the opportunity to study under Oswego alumni and Today Show meteorologist Al Roker. He also chased several, intense lake-effect snow storms throughout his time at SUNY Oswego.

During Erik’s first month as a reporter with KRTV, he was covering a prairie fire that suddenly moved into a small Ag community in central Montana and destroyed over 50 structures. He had to flee the town with the rest of the community. One of his favorite memories was getting to go back a year later and celebrate the town’s progress since the fire.

Erik loves food and the outdoors. If you have any recommendations for places to eat or hike, feel free to reach out to Erik on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
