Riley Shoemaker is a Senior Reporter at Idaho News 6, where she covers politics, government accountability, education, criminal justice and the stories that impact Idahoans every day.
Since joining Idaho News 6 in 2023, Riley has built a reputation for in-depth reporting and accountability journalism. Her work has examined concerns within the Idaho Department of Correction, education, state government and Idaho politics, including investigative reporting on conditions inside Idaho schools. Her coverage of Idaho politics and the Idaho Department of Correction has been recognized by the Idaho Press Club.
Before joining Idaho News 6, Riley worked across television, radio and digital media in New York City, gaining experience covering everything from breaking news and business to national stories. Her journalism career has spanned local, national and digital newsrooms, helping shape the reporting skills she brings to Idaho audiences today. She earned a degree in Communications from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, where she further developed her passion for journalism and storytelling.
Though she grew up in New Jersey, Idaho has always held a special place in her heart. Riley spent much of her childhood visiting family in Sun Valley, where many of her relatives still live today. Those connections eventually brought her back to the state she now proudly calls home.
