BOISE, Idaho — Travelers to the Gem State now have a new place to rent cars at the Boise Airport.
The new $107 million center includes a seven-story garage, a 20,000-square-foot customer service building, and a 4,000-square-foot covered passenger walkway — streamlining the rental process for travelers.
“I can tell you, I’ve been to dozens of airports and every single one of them where you have to walk or take a shuttle or take a trolley, it’s just so cumbersome that it doesn’t really make you wanna come — from that perspective this was awesome," said Thomas Price, who was on his first ever trip to Boise. "I was excited to be able to just walk straight here, I was here in less than 10 minutes."

The new center has storage space for about 1,000 cars and hosts a variety of rental companies on six different floors.
“This is part of our planning for the future of the Boise Airport," says Mayor Lauren McLean.
The project is part of a much larger expansion of BOI.
“So the old rental car Center is going to be the parking spot for the new Concourse A?," Neighborhood Reporter Brady Caskey asked.
“That’s the idea, yes,” said Beth Sumner, Deputy Director of Engineering and Planning at the Boise Airport.
Sumner explained the seven story center was built with growth in mind.
“The idea is that you build a structure like this maybe once every 20 years, so you build with enough capacity so that it’ll handle your future growth," said Sumner.
Demolition on the old rental car center is planned for this fall to make room for construction on parts of the Concourse A project starting next summer.
“This feels like the first step in many to continue to expand our operations here at the airport and be ready for the growth that we know has already happened and is coming in the next several years," added Sumner.

The Boise Airport expects to see about 80,000 passengers over the long weekend with the busiest travel days being Thursday and Monday.
