BOISE, Idaho — Along with all things merry and bright, the holidays can tend to be a little stressful at times, and for people living in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction, that can present the danger of relapse. That's why the P.E.E.R. Wellness Center in Boise is opening their doors to offer a sober place to socialize this season.

"It can just be a challenge to stay with your commitment to stay in recovery," Recovery United CEO Monica Forbes said.

Around the holiday season, many people are spending more money than usual, traveling, and spending time with people they may choose to avoid the rest of the year, piling on stress than lead to isolation.

"Sometimes part of your recovery is disengaging from family members who may or may not have been a good influence on you," Forbes said. "Our job [at P.E.E.R. Wellness Center] is to make sure we put as much wraparound support around you and make activities available to you and give you the support that you need."

From 8:00 p.m. Christmas Eve to 8:00 p.m. Christmas night, their doors will be open. "There’s a meeting going 24 hours a day; they usually have a meal or something with it too, but we don’t want anyone to feel like they’re alone for the holidays," Forbes said.

They'll be doing the same thing for New Years Eve and New Years Day.

Even outside the holiday season, P.E.E.R. offers peer-led group meetings seven days a week and social gatherings.
