BOISE, Idaho — At 6 On Your Side, we continue to provide you with the most up to date, accurate, fact-based information regarding COVID-19, otherwise known as the Coronavirus.

On Friday evening, members of the YMCA in the Treasure Valley received an email from the YMCA Rapid Response Team notifying members of potential exposure to the virus at their downtown location. The email to members read:

Valued Y Member,

To best protect the health of the community and exhibit transparency to our members and staff, we want to share the news of a potential COVID 19 exposure at the Downtown Boise YMCA.

On the evening of March 13, it came to our attention that a member visited the Downtown Boise YMCA who is suspected of having COVID-19 but not confirmed positive. This single visit took place on March 10, around 5 pm, and at that time, the member believed they were in good health and enjoyed their workout.

The member reported good equipment cleaning practice by wiping down the exercise machine before and after use. Since suspecting COVID-19, this individual has self-quarantined. Based on the timing of the visit and when the member presented symptoms, we believe the likelihood they were contagious while at the Y is extremely low.

We recommend anyone who has visited the Downtown Boise YMCA on March 10 at 5 pm or after consult their health care provider if symptoms such as a fever, cough, or shortness of breath occur. Symptoms typically occur 2-14 days after exposure.

We will continue with our deep cleaning regimen and on the evening of March 13 we will be conducting a comprehensive disinfecting protocol of the entire Downtown Boise Y out of an abundance of caution. The Downtown Boise YMCA will have regular operating hours on Saturday, March 14.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about coronavirus, please reach out to us at communications@ymcatvidaho.org.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this uncertain time.

While there is no confirmation of a positive test, we reached out to the Treasure Valley YMCA for more information about their preparations, and they declined to comment at this time.
