After a rained out field yesterday canceled the game, tensions were high between the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies and the Eagle Mustangs with the 5A State Title on the line. Eagle entered the tournament as the number one team in the country, with a perfect record, and smashed 66 home runs this year in the regular season.

In the third inning, the Mustangs were in the lead 2-0. Mustang Shortstop Autumn Moffat sent one flying to center, which gave number 21 Martha Tooley a chance to sprint to home. She made it 3-0 Eagle.

In the fifth inning, the Grizzlies fired back, laser beaming the ball to the Mustangs shortstop. Her throw just a little off target to first and Tommy Macdonald takes the run for the Grizzlies.

The teams both getting fired up in the sixth as the ball got behind Rocky’s catcher, Madi Strickland scores to give the Mustangs their fourth run of the game.

Eagle got another run in the air in the final inning and that’s the game! Eagle won the State Softball Title for the second year in a row 5-2 against Rocky Mountain.

Mustangs Head Coach Nicole Rollins says the girls have been working hard all season and is proud of the way the girls have worked as a team.

“There are definitely senior leaders but the also have been great about pulling everybody along. Every day someone else has been a hero. You know, we had a freshman step up in the district title game to win it with a home run and so every single one of them. You know we have a lot of stars, but every one of them’s a star and comes through as a hero for us. You know? I would say they played their heart on their sleeves since they started in November. So for them to come out and stay hot, stay on it, every single one of them top through bottom. Their confidence is unreal.” said Head Coach Nicole Rollins.

The Eagle Mustangs finished in an undefeated blaze of glory for the 2016 season.
