Teens in high-speed crash in Garden City

Two teens are are now facing charges after eluding officers at 7:30 this morning in Garden City.

After the officer turned on his emergency lights, the driver allegedly took off at a high rate of speed near the 3700 block of Chinden Boulevard.

Police say the driver, Destiny Stoops, 18, then crashed into a stop sign at Orchard and Bond, and the passenger, Kenneth Stewart, 18, took off on foot. Police later found Stewart hiding near the scene of the crash.

Stoops is facing several citations including reckless driving and obstruction, but was released pending further investigation.

Stewart was already facing both felony and misdemeanor warrants, and is also now charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and obstruction.
