A Utah man is behind Ada County bars after a Friday night traffic stop lead to the discovery of large amounts of marijuana and mushrooms.

Deputies pulled over Lee Thomas Smith around 8 p.m. Friday night on Eagle Road near the Taconic Drive intersection because of a burnt out headlight.

Ada County deputies detected the smell of marijuana coming from inside the car and called in assistance from an Ada County K-9 unit.

K-9 Nate detected the odor of illegal drugs inside the 2004 Prius driven by Smith.

After searching the car, deputies found more than one pound of marijuana divided into several plastic bags, a large plastic bag filled with mushrooms, material that appears to be hash oil and a bag of unidentified pills.

Deputies also found drug paraphernalia, a loaded handgun, a sword, and more than $2,400 in cash.

Smith was booked into Ada County jail. Other charges are possible in connection with the case.

27-year-old Smith is set to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
