If you give a child a book, good things will happen. Six On Your Side along with Scripps Howard Foundation conducts a book campaign every year in an effort to change the lives of children in need.
Thursday morning Six On Your Side's Don Nelson and Scott Dorval delivered over three hundred books to an excited assembly of children at Wilder Elementary school. Carrying a lot of boxes full of fun and knowledge, the news team was warmly greeted by hundreds of students, complete with banners.
Jeff Dillon, the Superintendent of the Wilder School District says unfortunately their community is of a higher poverty level. But Dillon added his teachers know what they're up against. "When it comes to educating their children they are up for the challenge because we have a lot of kids that come into the school district at below grade level, making it difficult for teachers to move our kids up the educational ladder."
And when it was all done, each student received at least one book a piece. We thanked Wilder for being such gracious hosts. And in return a we received a loud thank you back.
