Several lanes of Chinden Boulevard will open this week as part the Idaho Transportation Department ChindenWest Corridor project.
ITD will open four lanes of the boulevard from Locust Grove to Eagle Road on Friday. The widening began this spring and it's the second segment of the project to be completed this year. The first section was Idaho 16 to Linder Road, which opened in September. The stretch of Linder Road to Locust Grove will be completed in 2021, according to ITD.
“With work in the corridor nearly complete, we appreciate the patience of the traveling public and nearby residents throughout construction,” said Daris Bruce, ITD District 3 Resident Engineer in a news release.
The project includes four 12-foot travel lanes, two in each direction, and detatched 10-foot pathway for bicyclists and pedestrians, according to ITD.
The widening to four lanes is one of three phases of the corridor's 2040 vision, with phase two planned to widen the highway to six lanes and phase three to construct high-capacity intersections, but funding for both phases has not been secured, according to ITD.
