The Great American Outdoors Act was signed into law Tuesday morning, which will fund improvements to national parks across the country.

The bi-partisan bill passed the U.S. house of Representatives in July by a vote of 310-107. The act will allocate around $9 billion to park maintenance over the next five years. In addition to funding park maintenance, the bill will permanently fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which will improve and protect lands across the country.

The act was co-sponsored by U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID).

“We sincerely thank Congressman Simpson for his hard work and dedication in securing the passage and signing of the GAOA. This Act is simply great for Idaho and its public lands,” said Justin Hayes, Idaho Conservation League’s executive director in a statement. “The GAOA will help create thousands of jobs and maintain access to Idaho’s many amazing public lands -- special places where we all enjoy hiking, fishing, riding, or hunting.”
