PAYETTE COUNTY — A Payette County inmate has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a press release. The inmate started showing symptoms consistent with the coronavirus and was taken to a local hospital. It is not known at this time how the inmate contracted the virus.

In response to the positive case, the Payette County Sheriff's Office placed the inmate in a single cell. Deputies are monitoring all inmates and staff that had direct contact with the inmate. Southwest District Health has met with the Payette County Sheriff's Office and Payette County Emergency Managers. They have recommended procedures to be followed over the 14-day quarantine.

Payette County has implemented the recommendations, which include screening, monitoring, testing and sanitizing, and will be working directly with them through this process.
