Events will be taking place across the Gem State on Tuesday, August 1st, 2017 to enhance relationships between neighbors and officers.

A lot of neighborhoods are planning block parties and cookouts.

The event is designed to send a strong message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

In the City of Meridian alone, there are more than thirty events planned.

Meridian's deputy chief of police says he looks forward to it every year.

"It's really an opportunity for police to have more of that interaction with people that isn't really necessarily on a call or isn't an enforcement action or anything like that. It's a much more relaxed atmosphere," said Deputy Chief of Police Tracy Basterrechea, Meridian Police Department.

Thousands of communities across the country in all fifty states participate in National Night Out.
