The student who stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot of a Nampa high school last year was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The Idaho Statesman reports 18-year-old Wyatt Weist was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in April to attempted first-degree murder.

Authorities say Weist stabbed the 17-year-old victim seven times in the parking lot of Columbia High School in early December. The teen survived the attack.

The attack occurred while Weist was 17, but he was charged as an adult.

Canyon County officials say Weist will be incarcerated in the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections until his 21st birthday or until the court terminates custody in the juvenile facility. He will be eligible for parole after six years.
