The Nampa Police Department is keeping a close eye on the 52nd God and Country Festival.
Thousands came out to the free festival which celebrates the nation and Christian faith which ends in large fireworks display. Aside from proving traffic control this year, officers are providing extra security in and around the festival to make sure everyone stays safe.
Last year a young girl was caught in the crossfire in a gang shooting at the Walmart parking lot across the street during the firework show. Police say they will have an extra twenty officers and use volunteers making sure everyone obeys the law.
"We don't want anything like what happened last year to happen again this year we want everybody to have a great time everybody to be safe and get home safely," said Sergeant Tim Riha with the Nampa Police Department.
Festival organizers are also checking bags as people enter the gates, they want to make sure the festival stays safe and family friendly.
