UPDATE: Nampa Police say the man killed in a Saturday night officer-involved shooting was armed with a loaded crossbow and did not comply with officer commands to drop his weapon.

Authorities say they received two separate calls Saturday night, requesting welfare checks on 58-year-old Thomas Howard Luedtke.

"One of the callers stated that Mr. Luedtke wanted to harm himself and said if the police were sent he would shoot the officers," A press release from the City of Caldwell stated. "The other caller stated that Mr. Luedtke was hiding in camouflage, and was told by Mr. Luedtke that the cops are coming to kill him."

When officers arrived on the scene, they located Mr. Luedtke with the loaded crossbow, which he had pointed at the officers, according to the press release.

Three Nampa Police officers fired their weapons and have not been identified. Officer #1 has been with the department for 14 years. Officer #2 has four years of service in Nampa and prior law enforcement experience. Officer #3 joined the department ten months ago, but also has prior law enforcement experience.

All three officers are now on paid administrative leave, per department policy.

According to the press release, the Nampa Police Department has had previous contact with Mr. Luedtke including criminal, and previous mental holds.
