Meridian Police are investigating a murder-suicide in the 1200 block of Italy Street.

Officers responded to a welfare check about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and discovered 65-year-old Joy Frizzell dead in the house.

“During an investigation of an unattended death of a male by the Gem County Sheriff’s Office -- and after receiving information from the deceased male’s family -- Meridian Police were contacted to conduct a welfare check on the deceased male’s girlfriend,” said Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea.

Once on-scene, officers forced entry into the home and discovered Frizzell dead in her bed.
“Initial information and evidence collected indicates this was a murder-suicide; where we believe a boyfriend evidently killed his girlfriend, then took his own life,” Basterrechea said.

An autopsy has revealed the Frizzell dead of multiple stab wounds to the chest.
