The American Red Cross hopes a "Mega Blood Drive" will make a major impact. It was a two-day event sponsored by Idaho Young Single Adult Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Their goal was to set a record for the amount of blood donated in a single day in the state of Idaho.
Every two seconds someone in the U.S. is in need of blood, and throughout the summer months, the need is the highest, while the donation rate is at its lowest.
It is estimated that a single unit of blood has the potential of saving up to three lives.
