BOISE, Idaho — Update 7/29/26:
The two Boise Police officers involved in the shooting that killed a man in South Boise have been identified.
In a press release from the Boise Police Department, the officers were named as I. Ross and S. Norian. Officials say that Ross had 11 years of law enforcement experience, and Norian had 6 years.
The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF), led by the Meridian Police Department, is continuing to investigate the shooting.
Update 7/24/26:
The Ada County Coroner's Office has identified the man killed after a confrontation with police as 32-year-old Daniel Konovalov of Boise.
Initial reporting:
Boise Police say a person is dead after two officers fired their weapons near a canal in the area of Cloverdale and Overland Road.
It happened around 10:00 a.m. but Cloverdale Rd. remains closed to traffic just north of the Overland intersection as police begin their investigation.
In a press conference Thursday afternoon, Boise Police say they first got a 911 call from a person who told dispatch he was planning to commit suicide. Once he shared his location, police put a nearby gas station on lockdown and responded to the scene.
After attempting to use less-lethal methods to de-escalate the situation, police say the suspect continued to advance toward officers with a knife. That's when two officers fired shots, killing the man.
A witness at the scene told Idaho News 6 that they heard several gunshots, and everyone at the produce stand near that intersection got on the ground until they felt it was safe.
BPD officers were seen deploying drones above the canal as part of their investigation. Meridian Police will lead the Critical Incident Task Force investigation.
