The number of strays at animal shelters skyrockets in the Summer and peaks the first part of July.
The holiday weekend brought in about 80 stray cats and dogs at the Idaho Humane Society.
Anyone missing a four-legged friend is encouraged to stop by during regular hours, which are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Regular city redemption fees will be waived for holiday strays (July 3-5) who come into the Idaho Humane Shelter in Boise through July 9.
"Certainly, there are a lot of people who are using Craigslist and some of these Facebook forums to reunite with animals," says Allison Maier with the Idaho Humane Society. "So, I think people should just be aware of that while it's still important to come out to the shelter, put in those lost reports but also be aware that you should be looking online as well."
When temperatures are above 90 degrees, you may want to consider limiting your pets' time outside. Heat stroke can be deadly for them.
If they are outside, Maier says to make sure they have shade and plenty of water.
