Boise Police officers have arrested eight people and seized drugs including meth, heroin, bath salts and cocaine, according to a Boise Police Department news release.
The investigation was part of a joint effort by the Boise Police Department Patrol Division, Neighborhood Contact Unit, Gang Unit and Probation and Parole.
“We are aware of the national opioid problem and we are working diligently to make sure we don’t see the same trends here in Boise,” said BPD Sgt. Nicholas Duggan.
Boise Police say three local hotels were particular problem areas. They did not release the names of the hotels.
Two of the suspects arrested on the most serious charges are Angel Thornton, 22, and Sarah Myers, 21. Both are from Boise.
Thornton faces two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, plus misdemeanor of possessing drug paraphernalia, and a felony probation violation.
Myers faces charges of felony possession of a controlled Substance, felony drug trafficking, and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia.
On Wednesday, July 12, State Probation and Parole officers requested help from Boise Police to locate and arrest a suspect who had fled from them several weeks before. The suspect, Angel Thornton, was known to be staying in a hotel room on the 3000 block of Vista Avenue, according to the news release.
Boise Police were observing the same hotel for possible drug activity when they saw Thornton through an open door.
Officers made contact with Thornton and a second subject in the room, later identified as Myers.
Police say they were given consent to search the room -- and found 2.1 ounces of suspected heroin, 3.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine, multiple syringes, drug paraphernalia, and various items associated with trafficking a controlled substance.
Both were booked into the Ada County Jail.
Six others were arrested as part of the investigation Tuesday and Wednesday.
In total, officers say they seized 7 grams of meth, over 4 grams of marijuana, 2.35 oz. of heroin, almost 6 grams of bath salts, 12 grams of cocaine and over 50 pills.
