The Ada County Coroner confirmed Tuesday afternoon it was the remains of a female that was found in the Boise Foothills last weekend.
A woman came upon the remains while walking her dogs Saturday.
The remains were found about a mile away from a Bureau of Land Management gate that closes the road to vehicles during the winter.
The Ada County Coroner's Office is still examining the remains to determine the age and identity of the person.
Detectives don't yet know what happened. The remains appear to have been there for an extended period of time.
