Stella Oketch is bringing traditional African dancers and artists together to coordinate a charity gala on Saturday for adult refugees in Idaho.
She is a refugee herself and made it her mission to help adults in similar situations get educated and connected to their community.
She's working with the GKFolks Foundation to raise money for the English Language Center in Boise, which helps refugees learn English.
"A lot us have a misconstrued idea and don't fully understand like what a refugee is and I want people to see these people aren't coming to this country for the luxury of it they're seeking help," Oketch said.
The silent auction at the gala features traditional African art pieces made from banana leaves.
