NAMPA, Idaho — A Caldwell man is behind bars after a police chase through the city of Nampa early Wednesday morning.

Police say they tried to make a traffic stop on 20-year-old Alex Ibarra around 1:41 a.m. near N. Ethel Dr. and Port. Ibarra lead police south on a chase through the city. Police say at times Ibarra's vehicle was reaching speeds in excess of 65 miles per hour and was running stop signs.

Officials say Ibarra drove into a ditch bank near the edge of a canal when the passenger door opened, and a woman was pushed out of the moving car.

The woman told police she was in fear for her safety during the chase, and told Ibarra to stop and let her out more than once.

Officers ended the pursuit near Warren Spur Road by using the Pursuit Intervention Technique.

Ibarra was booked into the Canyon County jail for felony eluding, aggravated assault, a felony probation violation, false imprisonment and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.
