Eighteen-year-old Jessica Castro of Boise has been charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for her alleged role in a vehicle versus pedestrian crash that resulted in the death of a 68-year-old woman last December, according to a Boise Police Department news release.

The charge follows a nine-month police investigation.

Officers say Castro was the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal crash on the evening of Tuesday, December 19th, at the intersection of Ustick Road and Constantine Street.

Witnesses told police a car heading eastbound on Ustick struck a pedestrian who was in the crosswalk at the intersection.

Police say Castro remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

“The female pedestrian who was struck by the vehicle was transported to an area hospital, but died from her injuries just over a week later. The Ada County Coroner identified the woman as 68-year-old Barbara Whittaker,” the release said.

Castro has been served a summons to appear in court for the charge.
