When you think of a sports tournament, you probably picture a couple teams playing on a court, rink or field - but a very different kind of sports tournament took place at Boise State University Saturday.

Participants at BSU indulged in the world of e-sports.

It's the first high school e-sports tournament in Idaho, featuring students from all across the Gem State.

The tournament was made possible by Boise State's College of Education, College of Innovation and Design, and the Department of Educational Technology.

"The players, the passion that they have for what it is that they do, this to them is as important as any activity that goes on in high school," e-Sports State Championship commissioner Dr. Brett Shelton. "They spend a lot of their time their effort becoming better and better at what they enjoy doing and we're just here to support that."
