A Boise Police officer was involved in a two-vehicle accident on eastbound I-84 near the Meridian Road exit Sunday evening causing major traffic delays and lane closures.

The accident happened shortly after 8:00 p.m. Sunday just east of exit 44.

Crews on scene say a chair fell out of the bed of a red pick-up truck heading eastbound. A Boise Police officer responded to the scene and pulled over with his flashing lights on to help clear the road of debris.

Before he could get out of the car, he was rear ended by a black Mazda.

Two people are injured, including the BPD officer. Both are being transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police cited the driver of the pickup truck for an unsecured load.

The investigation is ongoing.
