Boise looks at metered parking price adjustments

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Boise officials are considering a demand-based approach to the city's metered parking rates in the downtown area.

The Idaho Statesman reported the City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday on whether to allow Boise staff to adjust the $1 per hour rate that's in place for all parking meters.

Under the proposal, parking rates in the core area of downtown could increase to $1.50 for the first hour and $2.50 for a second hour of parking.

Prices could jump to $1.25 per hour for the streets surrounding the downtown core. For parking along the outskirts of the downtown area, prices could drop to $.50 for one hour.

Officials say the goal is to push drivers seeking long-term parking into garages, while freeing up metered spaces for short-term parking.
