BOISE, Idaho — The man accused of attacking a woman along the Boise Greenbelt in July appeared in court on Monday, where attorneys clarified one of the charges against him.
Javier Ortiz, 26, is being held on a $1 million bond. Idaho News 6 previously reported Ortiz was charged with second-degree kidnapping and aggravated assault.
During Monday’s hearing, attorneys clarified that the kidnapping charge is attempted second-degree kidnapping, not second-degree kidnapping. They asked for the court record to be corrected and said the clarification does not represent a change in the charges Ortiz is facing.

Prosecutors say the woman was walking alone along the Greenbelt on July 11 when Ortiz approached her and allegedly grabbed her by the face and neck, threw her to the ground and pinned her down.
The woman fought back by kicking and scratching Ortiz before calling for help, according to prosecutors. A nearby witness intervened while another person called 911.
Boise Police previously said officers were called shortly before 11 p.m. after reports of someone screaming along the Greenbelt near South Ferguson Street. Officers later found Ortiz near Broadway Bridge in Julia Davis Park and arrested him.
Prosecutors say Ortiz admitted to grabbing the woman but claimed he was trying to turn her around after she hit him with her purse. Prosecutors have said the two did not know each other and the alleged attack appeared to be random.
The woman was treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
Ortiz’s preliminary hearing, which had been scheduled for Monday, was moved to Sept. 14.
