Middleton City Council unanimously votes to appoint Tim O'Meara as the new mayor

CANYON COUNTY, Idaho — The City of Middleton held a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the mayoral vacancy following the death of Mayor Jackie L. Hutchison.

Meeting agenda items included the appointment of a new mayor and, if necessary, a Middleton City Council appointment.

During the meeting, the City Council voted unanimously to appoint Tim O'Meara as the new Mayor of Middleton.

O'Meara is currently in his second term on the City Council. He was elected the Council President in 2026. He also serves on the Middleton Rural Fire District Commissioners.

Following O'Meara's appointment as mayor, the Middleton City Council voted to appoint Kelly Grenier to fill O'Meara's city council seat.

Both O'Meara and Grenier will be sworn in during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Wednesday, Mar. 4, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
