If you had to have surgery, most of us would opt to have it done closer to home.

West Valley Medical Center leaders have recognized the growing need in Caldwell. They're almost done with phase one of their surgery department's renovation and expansion, which includes equipment upgrades.

With phase two of the remodel soon to kick in, the ultimate goal is to have a total of six state-of-the-art operating rooms.

"I think it allows us to really bring great, quality equipment and quality people here to care for our community," says Betsy Hunsicker, chief executive office of West Valley Medical Center. "And then, I think, the other piece of this is the economic impact on our county and our city where we pay taxes."

The project will be worth $15 million when it's all said and done. The project is being paid for by the medical center's corporate partner.
