A portion of Paradise Path through the University of Idaho campus in Moscow will be named for three-time Olympic gold medalist -- and UI alumna -- Kristin Armstrong at a dedication event Saturday, September 9th.
A short bike ride led by Armstrong is open to the public and will begin at West Park Elementary -- with line-up at 10 a.m. and the ride beginning at 10:30 a.m. The ride will follow the trail and end at the UI Student Recreation Center lawn, where a dedication ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. A bike fair open to kids of all ages will run until 1 p.m.
"I am a proponent of healthy lifestyles and active living," Armstrong said. "This bike trail through UI is a great way to start all Vandals on the road to both. I am proud to have it named in my honor."
Armstrong is a 1995 graduate of what is now known as the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences and has had a distinguished career in sports medicine. She recently accepted a position as endurance performance director with USA Cycling. Armstrong is a resident of Boise.
Armstrong won her first cycling time trial gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and followed it with gold medals in 2012 in London and 2016 in Rio.
"Kristin is an outstanding athlete and an outstanding person," said President Chuck Staben. "We're privileged to have her as a graduate of the University of Idaho. Naming the bike path in her honor offers a valuable reminder for every UI student and community member to always go for the gold."
