Crews from the Ada County Recovery Dive Team located the body of a man who fell into a canal near Griffiths Park in Caldwell around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

The man fell in shortly before 4:00 p.m. and never resurfaced.

Investigators say the man is in his 60's and was with a friend when he fell in. Police believe he may have been picking something up off the ground near the water's edge when he fell into the canal.

A passerby stopped when she saw the man's three-wheeled bike laying on the sidewalk nearby, knowing who it belonged to.  She saw his friend yelling toward the water from the canal's edge.

She says the friend was on the phone with 911 when she walked up, and he handed her the phone before jumping into the water in an attempt to save the man.

She was able to help the friend to safety but the man didn't resurface.

People who frequent the area believe the man may be homeless and spends most of his days at Griffiths Park.

The identity of the victim has not yet been publicly released.
