DIETRICH, Idaho (AP) -- An Idaho judge has approved delaying a preliminary hearing for a white football player who prosecutors say sexually assaulted a black teammate in an Idaho high school locker room.

The Times-News reports that 18-year-old John R.K. Howard's original preliminary hearing had been scheduled for Friday, but prosecutors with the Idaho attorney general's office requested the delay on Thursday.

The new hearing will be July 29.

According to prosecutors, a teen was sexually assaulted with a clothes hanger in the Oct. 22 attack at Dietrich High School in southern Idaho.

Three football players have since been charged in connection with the attack. Howard and 17-year-old Tanner Ward are both charged with felonies in adult court and a third player is charged as a juvenile. All records in the juvenile's case have been sealed.
