A 19-year-old man is dead following a collision between a train and a passenger car in Kuna.

It happened shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, near the intersection of Greenhurst and Black Cat Roads.

Deputies with Ada County say they believe the driver failed to stop at the stop sign on Black Cat Road at the railroad crossing.

The name of the person killed has not yet been released.

Officials on scene say the train was traveling more than 55 miles per hour carrying hazardous materials at the time of the collision, but did not derail.

Crews examined the train for possible mechanical problems at the scene, but was able to clear the train from the area at 5:40 p.m.

First responders blocked off Black Cat Road between Columbia and Greenhurst during the investigation.
