A 17-year-old Meridian male who just graduated from high school died early Sunday morning after he rolled over a truck in the desert east of the Swan Falls Dam.
A passenger, 15-year-old boy in the truck was badly injured and had to be taken to a local hospital by an air ambulance. Another passenger, a 16-year-old boy, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash occurred just before 5 a.m. Sunday. It appears the boys were at a graduation party in the desert nearby when they decided to go for a drive east of the Swan Falls/Moore roads intersection.
Witnesses say the 17-year-old was driving on a desert dirt road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the pickup, which rolled over.
The driver and a passenger was ejected from the truck.
Deputies are investigating what caused the driver to lose control of the truck.
There was a group of teens in a Jeep near the crash site and another back at the party site. Deputies released those teens to their parents.
The identity of the driver is not released at this time.
