A three-alarm fire that destroyed Mercy Hospital in Nampa was found to have been started by a group of people trying to keep warm.

Investigators have determined that the fire was started in a trash can as a warming fire for individuals who were inside to keep out of the cold.

However, investigators do not believe that the fire was intentionally set to destroy the building.

The fire destroyed the roof of the building which resulted in the owners deciding to tear the it down. Demolition has yet to begin.

The building had been abandoned since 2004.
