Boise Police are partnering with a national database to help return stolen bikes in the Treasure Valley.

Police say, on average, they receive approximately 30 stolen bike reports every month.

To help return stolen bikes to their owners, BPD is encouraging riders to register their bicycles with Bike Index, a national database that allows users to register their bikes, upload photos and add detailed information about it, as well.

"Most avid bicyclists will have a bike specific to them, so a lot of their components or things on their bike are specific to them and their bike, which makes it unique" said Sgt. Craig Nixon. "So those pictures that we have of their bike, it helps us identify them if they're lost or stolen and we can return that property to them."

Police say that, through the use of Bike Index, officers can help track down stolen bikes in Boise, as well as those taken outside of the city.
