Boise Police arrested an armed robbery suspect shortly after the report report of a residential robbery on the 1900 block of Columbus on Friday night.

Boise Police Officers and Ada County Sheriff’s deputies located and stopped a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle near Cole and Victory.  The driver and a passenger were taken into custody.

Another passenger in the car refused to cooperate and barricaded himself in the vehicle with a handgun.  Negotiators worked for several hours to get the suspect to surrender peacefully.  The keys to the vehicle had been removed by the car’s driver during the initial stop and the suspect began to try to hot wire the vehicle to flee.

Officers moved forward with a police armored vehicle in an attempt to disable the vehicle.  The suspect fired his weapon once at the armored vehicle and once in the direction of officers. No officers were injured and it appears the suspect’s shot missed the armored vehicle. Police then fired a non-lethal diversionary device two times and the suspect surrendered.

The suspect received minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for evaluation before being arrested. The suspect, Michael R. Osborn is expected to be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Intimidating a Witness.

“Boise Police Officers were able to show tremendous restraint thanks to their equipment and their training,” said Boise Police Patrol Captain PD Burch.  “Officers worked effectively to safely take the suspect into custody while protecting themselves and the public from a dangerous situation.”
