Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area is about to have a lot more to offer when it comes to all-seasons activities including a new mountain coaster, mountain bike park and bungee trampoline jump.

"I think that's awesome! We need people from the valley to come up here and spend their hard earned dollars," longtime skier and snow boarder Thomas Stewart said. "It's got to be a year-round resort, not a seasonal resort!"

Bogus Basin General Manager Brad Wilson says the board of directors gave the green light to spend $4.3 million in new features. Construction will begin as soon as the ski season ends.

The new mountain coaster is scheduled to open August 1, and even before that, Wilson says major improvements will be made to the outdoor area near Simplot Lodge. A new, bigger patio will be constructed including new food and beverage options, and the space between the base lodge and chair lifts will now be home to a large grass field and water features.

Additional new features include a summer tubing hill, climbing wall, and mountain bike park.

The goal is to provide the recreation area with a source of revenue year-round to help fund future projects and offset bad snow years, and to attract community members who aren't into winter sports.

"You don't have to have a huge skill set to ride the mountain coaster and anybody can do it!" General Manager Brad Wilson said.
