BOISE, ID — A record 800 million packages are expected nationwide according to the U.S. Postal Service. The postal service plans months ahead of time. The season peaks two weeks before Christmas when last minute shopping starts.

At the Boise Mail Processing Center, employees work around the clock. They process about 3 million pieces here at the facility alone every day, and they've hired about 50 extra employees for the holiday season.

Jennifer Schatzinger, a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service says she works until 1 a.m.

"While everyone is out having fun, I'm at work, but I'm awake. I'm used to it. I like it, and everyone crashes around one. I'm still up," said Schatzinger.

She says she enjoys seeing Christmas cards while she works.

"I know that at Christmas time, I want the cards to get out."
