Opening Day at Memorial Stadium was spoiled when the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes struck for six runs in the eighth inning, eventually defeating the Boise Hawks 7-2.
The game began with Antonio Santos on the rubber in his first Northwest League start. Santos, after giving up a lone unearned run in the first, was solid until the eighth inning commenced.
All was quiet until the top of the eighth Santos gave up four straight hits: three singles to Manuel Geraldo, Juan Rodriguez, and Zack Bowers and a double to John Riley. In that inning the Volcanoes scored six runs on five hits.
The Hawks and Volcanoes square off Tuesday night, where it's Two Dollar Tuesday out at the ballpark.
