Martinez Granted Release

Boise State announced Monday that Geordan Martinez has been granted his release from the Boise State wrestling team.

Martinez requested his release during the hiring process for a new head coach. The request was granted prior to Boise State’s announcement of Mike Mendoza as the Broncos’ third head coach in the last 44 years. There are no restrictions on Martinez’s release, and he is free to transfer anywhere.

“I wish Geo the best of luck in the next phase of his wrestling career,” Mendoza said. “When there is transition in coaching positions, these types of things tend to happen. That being said, returning Boise State to the upper echelon of collegiate wrestling does not rest on the shoulders of one individual. And I look forward to accomplishing great things with this program.”

Multiple reports last week have Martinez, who is a two-time Pac-12 Champion going to the Big 12 and joining Oklahoma State University.
