BSU Women on cruise control winners of 6 in row

Posted

The Boise State women's basketball team has become the team that everyone wants to  take down in the Mountain West. The Broncos have won 6 straight and will look for their 7th tomorrow night in Logan.

It hasn't been just one girl leading the way for the Broncos on the streak. Brooke Pahukoa and Shay Shaw along with Miquelle Askew all have the team playing with the next woman up attitude.

" If you want to stop me on the three point shot then Miquelle is going to take it to you in the post and same with shay. I think that's our biggest advantage, we mesh so well with each other and how we like to play, our strengths are really showing on the floor." said Brooke Pahukoa junior guard.

The teams bond goes even deeper. Before each game head coach Gordy Persnell motivates his  team through handwritten notes and text messages of encouragement.

"it gets me focused on something that i can do to help my team get ahead and help brooke score threes." said Shay Shaw Sophomore forward.

" We want to let them know that we are here for them and were going to have some bad times together and they might get into trouble once in awhile. We’re going to have some great times as well and we always want them to know that they can count on us. We’re always trying to come up with anything motivational that we can that keeps them bleeding blue." said Head Coach Gordy Persnell.

Boise State is averaging more than 70 points a game and with the streak tied for the longest in conference play since joining the Mountain West and they say they are not peaking just yet.

" We had a pretty good night the other night, we only missed seven shots in the first half. If we are not peaking yet then hopefully will have better nights than that." said Persnell.

" We really had our bench last week coming in and with them in the mix i think by tournament time we will be peaking at the right time." said Pahukoa.

Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm tomorrow night in Logan."
