Boise State made it official today with the hiring of Gary Van Tol as Boise States new head baseball coach.
Van Tol has been around the game of baseball for more than 25 years with coaching experience around the treasure valley.
Its a win-win for Van Tol as his wife Christina is already on staff at Boise State in the athletic department. Over the past ten years Van Tol has been with the Hawks, and in Eugene with the Emeralds last season as a bench coach.
He says he is honored for the chance to coach back in Boise and is glad to be the manager of the Broncos.
He will be the first baseball coach for the Broncos since the sport was discontinued in 1980.
"The situation I had with the Chicago Cubs you know I woke up every day you know fired up. I couldn't believe what I was doing they were actually paying me. I'm fifty years old I've never had a job and I get to continue with this job and this opportunity doesn't come around very often and especially in a city you call home,” said Boise State New Baseball Coach Gary Van Tol.
The program is set to begin playing in the 2020 season and Van Tol says the recruiting for this program is already underway.
