Both of football legend Doug Flutie's parents died Wednesday morning.
Flutie posted a statement to Facebook and Twitter announcing that his father, Dick, had been sick and died of a heart attack in the hospital. His mother, Joan, died of a sudden heart attack less than an hour later.
"They say you can die of a broken heart and I believe it," Flutie wrote.
Flutie, a quarterback, won the Heisman Trophy in 1984, while he played for Boston College. In the NFL, he played for the Rams, Bills, Chargers and Patriots.
His "Hail Mary" touchdown pass in a game between BC and Miami in 1984 is often referred to as "The Pass" and considered to be one of the greatest moments in football history.
