BOISE, Idaho — Mayor Dave Bieter and the chairman of the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes, Ted Howard, are teaming up for a re-dedication ceremony Friday.

Last month, the Boise City Council approved resolutions to rename Quarry View Park as Eagle Rock Park and Castle Rock Reserve as Chief Eagle Eye Reserve. At the time, Bieter called the move a "long time coming" and it is just the latest step in building a meaningful collaboration to honor the area's indigenous people.

Friday's ceremony is part of the annual return of the Boise Valley People Gathering and will be at the new Eagle Rock Park on Old Penitentiary Road in east Boise. Speakers include Governor Brad Little, representatives from the tribes, city council members and the Idaho Air National Guard. It starts at 9:30 a.m.
