Zoo Boise officials have announced the arrival of a new male African Lion. “Revan arrived at Zoo Boise over the weekend and is adjusting well to his new home,” said Boise Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Bonnie Shelton.

The four-year-old lion comes to Zoo Boise from Maryland, through a partnership with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Zoo Boise currently has two female lions, Mudiwa and Obadiah.

“Revan will be off-exhibit for some time while going through the usual quarantine period. Zookeepers at Zoo Boise will be working hard to make him comfortable and help Revan get to know his new surroundings,” Shelton said.

Once that quarantine period is over, Revan will be placed on exhibit. “We’ll make an announcement and invite the public to come visit him when the time is right,” Shelton added.

At that time, Revan will also begin to have limited contact with the two female lions at the zoo. “This process will be carefully monitored and controlled by zoo staff and it will take a few months before all three lions will be on exhibit together,” Shelton explained.

“This is an important addition for Zoo Boise that will help us further our conservation mission,” said Zoo Boise Director Gene Peacock. “We are excited that guests will once again get to experience the roar of an African Lion at the zoo.”
