The Idaho Transportation Department will host a community workshop today at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Nampa (5750 E. Franklin Rd.) to learn what the public has to say about upcoming improvements to Interstate 84 between the Karcher and Franklin Boulevard interchanges.

The public is invited to come by anytime between 4 and 7:30 p.m.

ITD officials say identical presentations will begin at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Both sessions will include an opportunity to comment on I-84 improvements, learn what the next steps are, and hear about other I-84 transportation projects in Canyon County.

ITD’s current design plans include adding lanes to I-84, replacing the Northside Interchange and Karcher Overpass, and rebuilding aging structures over Mason Creek and the Union Pacific Railroad.

“Construction on I-84 between Karcher and Franklin Boulevard could begin as early as the fall of 2018. The improvements are expected to enhance safety, capacity and traffic flow for many years,” said ITD spokesman Jake Melder.
