CALDWELL, ID—A woman was arrested and charged with DUI and Injury to a child after passing out in a hot car with a baby inside on Tuesday afternoon.
At about 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Caldwell Police responded to a report of a woman appeared unconscious inside of a car parked in the rear parking lot of a truck stop located in the 3500 block of Franklin Road.
The temperature outside was approximately 95 degrees at the time of the call, according to Caldwell Police.
Officers located Thetoska Lehto, 23, of Glenns Ferry, passed out behind the wheel of her vehicle with the engine running.
They also found a 14-month-old baby in the back seat of the car with windows rolled up.
It took several minutes to awaken Lehto and provide care to the baby in the back seat. The child appeared red and was sweating heavily. The child was treated at a local hospital for heat exposure before later being released to a relative.
Lehto was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert and eventually arrested for driving under the influence of medication and felony injury to a child.
She was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine at the time of her arrest. She is currently in custody at the Canyon County Jail.
